Marrakech / New Knives

by Humanfly / Queen Of Swords

about

Dynamic and restrained, Queen Of Swords present a sonic experience closer to the musical philosophies of Schopenhauer, than a response to the work of their hardcore contemporaries and influences. New Knives’ rich drift of textural experimentations chase the locus of its structural rhythm section. Tonal decay and atonal abstraction characterises the rich sounds that explore the negative space of Sparkes’ minimalist drumming. Angular contributions from Trencher’s Mark Dicker develop the sound in their live set whilst their revolving door policy further sees Palehorse’s John Atkins making live appearances.

With almost polar stylistic approaches each of these projects develops an apocalyptic sound of epic proportions. Featuring ex-members of the sorely missed Canvas, and Beecher, Humanfly counterpoint the synthesised soundscape of QOS with the rich catharsis of post-metal riffing. Using additional floor toms to augment the weight of their sound Humanfly retain the visceral origins of the genre and stand strong in the current tide of post-metal ambience.
